An artist, author, exhibition curator, textile researcher, and film producer, Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada has long been a proponent of traditional and sustainable practices in fashion and textile production. She travels throughout the world giving lectures and workshops. Wada is the President of the World Shibori Network and founder of the Slow Fiber Studio in California. Mary Kellogg was a leading figure in the textile and crafts community. She passed away in 2011 at the age of 100. Artist Jane Barton studied textile art with Yoshiko Wada.

I learned an incredible amount about the various techniques, ranging from the simple tie-dye we know from the hippy era to the complex folding, pleating resist methods invovled with some of Japan's greatest kimono fabrics. One is in awe of the patience and skill involved in these fine designs.A must for the fabric artist and a great inspiration to all who love fabrics.

Portraits und Arbeiten zeitgenössischer Künstler sowie historische Arbeiten werden vorgestellt. Für alle, die sich für Shibori interessieren, sei es aus theoretischem Interesse oder weil sie es selbst mal ausprobieren wollen. Besonders gefallen hat mir der Anhang mit japanischen Färbetechniken und Pflanzenfarben.
Eine der besten Shibori-Büchern weltweit, die erste ausführliche und wirklich lehrreiche. Für mich ist dieses Buch die "Shibori-Bibel". Zwar englisch geschrieben, man muss aber nicht einmal englisch können, um mit diesem Buch zurecht zu kommen. Die gezeigten Techniken werden gezeichnet und fotografiert vorgestellt. Ein Schritt-für-Schritt-Lernen auch alleine gut möglich. Unzählige wunderschöne Beispiele werden gezeigt. Die Shibori-Technik-Gruppen sind gut gegliedert und toll illustriert. Es gibt dabei Methoden für Anfänger, für Profis und für alle, die ihre Kleidung oder Heimtextilien individuell gestalten möchten.Shibori ist ein Sammelbegriff für textile Reservierungstechniken, bei denen Teile des Stoffes durch nähen, pressen, wringen, abbinden usw. von der Farbe verschohnt, bzw. ausgespart bleiben. Bei mehrfarbigen Arbeiten dient die mechanische Reservierung zur Lenkung des Farbflusses. Die dadurch erzielte Ergebnisse sind dreidimensional strukturiert. Ein verschwommener Musterrand und mehrere Nuancen derselben Farbe sind typische Merkmale solcher Stoffen.Dieses Buch ist unübertrefflich!!!!
If you have one book on Shibori, this should be the one (reviewers opinion)! Yoshiko Wada covers the scope of Shibori, its history, artists and techniques with expertise and beautiful photos. There are only a handful of books on traditional shibori in English. Here you will find an easy to read, well laid out format. Techniques are covered with clear, detailed instructions and diagrams. This is most helpful for beginners yet allows the advanced to become more proficient and precise. Complimenting the above are excellent color photos; close-ups of patterns (a vast selection), garments, ancient, traditional and contemporary artists and their works. Yoshiko's book takes the reader from the historical through creating a completed piece of art. Fact: This reviewer was introduced to this book in an art class. Five years later, now a shibori artist, I still use Yoshiko's book on an almost daily basis. The wealth of information she provides is invaluable as both guide and reference. Thank you Yoshiko and Amazon for offering this book.
